A look at the Orc general from the Legion of Arethyr.

Figure in Focus: Urzokk

Since the start of Mythic Legions, Orcs have been an important part of the toys and the storyline. The first-ever Orc to escape from the Realm of Mythoss and into toy collections, and the subject of this “Figure in Focus” article, is the evil general named Urzokk!

Urzokk Enters the Battle

Urozkk was not one of the initial figures offered during the Mythic Legions 1.0 Kickstarter, as many of the parts found on this figure, including the head and much of his armor, required new tooling not found in the rest of the figures available early on.

As the campaign slowed during the middle stretch of its planned run, many fans and potential backers voiced their wish to see an Orc available in the line. Adjusting tooling plans, and taking a bit of a risk, the studio decided to open a few stretch goal figures early and add them to the assortment that was available for pledging. These newly unlocked figures included Malleus, the Bog Goblin, and the line’s first Orc – Urzokk.

The addition of these three new figures lit a fire under the campaign and it very quickly met its funding goal. More and more stretch goals began to open up as the campaign’s pledge level rose higher, eventually raising more than 3 times its initial funding threshold and unlocking every single stretch goal in an epic march to what became a massive 34 figure wave to kick off the Mythic Legions line!

Would the Kickstarter have succeeded had Urzokk not entered the battle when he did? It is almost certain that it would have, but there is no denying that the emergence of this Orcish warrior sped that process up and helped drive the success of this earliest wave of Mythic Legions.

Fun fact – the iconic “white face paint” on Urzokk was not even his original look. If you watch the video that accompanies the first Mythic Legions Kickstarter, you will see this figure shown with a plain green Orc head. When Urzokk was finally made available, the white face paint was added, but that “plain” head was also included based on fans’ requests for a less character-specific option.

Mythic Legions Urzokk

A Popular and Important Character

Urzokk was one of the best-selling figures in the first Mythic Legions wave, which was appropriate since he was also a fairly important character in the storyline as a trusted general for Gorgo Aetherblade of the Legion of Arethyr! Here is the bio story that was eventually available once this figure was released:

Once a lowly footsoldier in the Orc ranks, Urzokk has brutally carved his way to the top. An unusually advanced intellect and a cunning disposition have secured Urzokk status as a high ranking advisor and strategist. Urzokk's efficiency and effectiveness have not only acquired him power and position, but more importantly, he is one of the very few who are truly trusted by Gorgo Aetherblade.

Urzokk Was Never an All Star

The popularity of Urzokk for early adopters of the line certainly carried through as new fans came onboard, but Urzokk remained an elusive grail for many of them. This Orc warrior was part of the voting for a reissue for All Stars 2, but he did not make the cut. We intentionally removed him, and other important characters from our story, in future voting polls since we knew that we wanted to redo, rather than reissue, this character down the road. It would be quite a few years before that would happen, and a new Mythic Legions subline would need to be created to bring Urzokk back again.

The Legacy of Urzokk

At Gcon 2024, the new Legacies of Mythoss subline was announced and the first figure from that line, Otho, was revealed. At the time, many fans speculated that Otho would be made available in a 2-pack set alongside a new Urzokk. They were pretty close to the mark, for while Otho and Urzokk may not have been boxed together in one package, they were released together in the first wave of the Legacies line!

Mythic Legions Legacies Urzokk

The idea behind the Legacies of Mythoss line was a way for us to do new versions of key characters in their iconic, first looks from our story. As our story moves into its second major arc, many of our key characters will evolve in how they act and how they look – and some will not make it out of the first arc at all! We know that as excited as fans may be for these characters and their new looks, there is also a need to have them in their classic looks as well. Legacies replaces the All Stars reissues that ended with All Stars 6 by allowing us to use all our latest improvements in figures on these new releases. As we planned out this new line, we knew that we had to kick it off with Otho, but pairing him with Urzokk was quickly decided. When we revealed Otho at Gcon, we already had Urzokk done and ready to show – but we decided to hold that reveal back until September 2025 when the Legacies line was made available for sale, first as “in stock” items and later as a timed preorder.

The Legacies of Mythoss Urzokk, which can be seen both above in a wonderful environment shot from Trevor Williams and below in some turns, included an almost entirely new body build that was very much an update on the “evil armor’ the first figure came with. It also included some brand new, and brutal looking, weapons and 3 heads with a variety of expressions – stoic, gritted teeth, and a full on battle cry!

In addition to the changes and upgrades made to the figure itself, we also expanded Urzokk’s bio to further explain his connection to Gorgo and the Orc who trained him, Vorthogg. Here is that Legacies bio:

The highest-ranking general in the Legion of Arethyr, Urzokk used an advanced intellect and cunning disposition, along with a natural affinity for violence and brutality, to rise from the ranks of a lowly footsoldier to Gorgo Aetherblade’s most trusted acolyte.

Trained by the Orc warlord, Vorthogg, Urzokk showed great promise from the start. After defeating all challengers who were set against him, he was afforded extra attention by his trainer. Vorthogg took the raw power of his young student and honed him into a nearly unbeatable weapon.

Over time, Urzokk and his mentor began to slowly grow apart. While the grizzled old Orc grew more and more disillusioned with the Legion’s leader, Gorgo Aetherblade, Urzokk was enthralled with the black-armored warmonger’s commands.

Proving himself invaluable to Gorgo’s plans by leading the vicious unit of Orcs known as the Urkku to a resoundingly bloody victory in the battle known as the Scourging of Arethorn Fields, Urzokk found himself elevated well beyond his former trainer’s station. Now one of Gorgo’s primary advisors, and one of the few he truly trusted, Urzokk was granted the ability to use his skills and his wicked weapons to aid Gorgo in his ultimate plan – to return the fiery God of War, Arethyr, to the Realm of Mythoss.

The Rage of Urzokk

The Legacies of Mythoss Urzokk figure is a great example of what this new line is all about. Comparing the first release of Urzokk to this new version, you can see the clear design influences that are carried through from that early figure to the update. This ability to revisit older characters and older designs shows the benefits of this approach versus straight reissues, and it has us very excited for what the future holds for the heroes and villains of Mythic Legions.
