A deeper look at the Mythic Legions Arethyr figure

Figure in Focus: Arethyr

While it took a few years into the Mythic Legions line for the figure of Arethyr to fully be revealed, it is amazing what a presence this fiery character has had on Mythic Legions since the very beginning of the line.

Arethyr Mythic Legions figure

Arethyr was first mentioned during the 1.0 Kickstarter campaign as the namesake of one of the “Factions” of characters that populated this newly created fantasy realm. We didn’t know it all the way back then, but the Horsemen actually gave us a sneak peek at this dark god, as his visage is part of the Legion of Arethyr faction emblem. It can also be found on the hilt of the Aetherblade sword, which is wielded by a devoted minion of Arethyr, the mysterious warlord known as Gorgo Aetherblade.

Fans would get a better look at Arethyr when the “Mythic Legions Art Book” shipped. Offered as part of that first Kickstarter campaign, this book contained a short comic book whose final panels showed the return of Arethyr. The art book also included some bio information and art on the characters offered in the first wave of figures, as well as some sketches and a few “Behind the Scenes” pictures from the studio. Some of these images were for a sketch or Arethyr and a rough sculpture for the Arethyr figure’s head.

Fans picked apart these images and began to speculate on when we would get this figure into the line and what he would look like once he was complete. That last question of what this figure would look like was answered during the very first G-con event in July 2018 when Arethyr and his steed, Aetheon, were unveiled as the final surprise during a day filled with amazing figure reveals.

Fans would need to wait and entire year to actual have a shot at ordering Arethyr and Aetheon, as the pair was made available at the second G-con event in 2019 as part of the “Arethyr” wave that was showcased during that event. Additionally, it was revealed that Arethyr is actually the “fiery manifestation of war”, making him the first of what is planned to be a foursome of apocalyptic riders, each one a dark god key to the lore of Mythic Legions.

The shipping date for Arethyr and the rest of the figures in his namesake wave has yet to be announced, but fans are already clearing spaces in their collections for this amazing figure, eager to finally add him and his horse to their growing Mythic Legions displays!
